THE BIBLE, TAKEN WITH A PILLAR OF SALT: The Whole Glorious Story, and the Parts They Skipped
ISBN 979-8-9979243-1-7
The Whole Bible. All sixty-six books, plus the ones that didn't make the cut. Told straight through, with the Sunday-school gloss stripped off and the genuinely strange parts left in.
The talking donkey is in here. So is the prophet who lay on his side for over a year, the two bears who mauled forty-two children over a joke about baldness, the emperor who ate grass for seven seasons, and the man who spent his last recorded hours arguing with God about a plant. None of it is invented. Most of it isn't taught.
This isn't a takedown and it isn't a sermon. It's a retelling that takes these books seriously enough to be honest about them — funny where they're funny, blunt where they're brutal, and pointed about the distance between what they actually say and what gets preached in their name.
Aimed at hypocrisy, not belief. Everyone's welcome.
About the Author
Phil Cothran was born and raised in South Carolina and has since lived in the Rocky Mountains and now in Maui, having relocated twice in pursuit of terrain — first vertical, then underwater.
He likes to think he can do anything, despite demonstrating from time to time that’s not the case. He photographs marine life, plays music just barely well enough to enjoy it, travels when he can, and is still, at this late date, trying to grow into a better version of himself — a project he considers unfinished and expects to remain so.
The Bible, Taken with a Pillar of Salt is his first book.
A Pillar of Salt Press will publish The Bible, Taken with a Pillar of Salt: The Whole Glorious Story, and the Parts They Skipped by Phil Cothran on April 3, 2027.
